Knoxville – A City Surrounded by Mountains

Knoxville, the original capital of Tennessee is surrounded by the backwoods wilderness of the Great Smoky, the Cumberland and the Blue Ridge mountains. It is a rather quiet city of 180,000 with modern skyscrapers, older brick buildings and a riverfront at the bottom of steep bluffs combine to give downtown an attractive edge. Make your stay remarkable by visiting the Old City, centered on Central Street and Jackson Avenue, which is a small area of shops, galleries, restaurants and nightspots in Victorian warehouses.

Tennessee is well known for its strong musical heritage, having spawned the careers of many famous musicians, including Elvis Presley. Elvis lived in Memphis in the Graceland Mansion, which today welcomes visitors to the mansion to pay their respects to the King of Rock ‘n Roll in the Meditation Garden. In the Knoxville area, another well-known star is Dolly Parton, who has her own theme park called Dollywood.

Visit Knoxville attractions including the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which is located in Gatlinburg. If you love country music, then a journey to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, where live tapings of the longest running country music station can be seen and heard in a 4400-seat studio will delight you. Also visit Chattanooga, which is most famous for the Chattanooga Choo Choo.
